5 Easy Ways to Bond With Your Kids

In this fast paced life we all seem to live, finding time to really bond with your kids can be difficult. It can seem like we spend lots of time with them, but is it really quality time? Or is it just time spent doing all the things that seem so important at the moment. Spending quality time with your child does not just mean spending tons of money or going on extravagant vacations. It is taking a few moments everyday to be present with your child. Here are 5 easy ways to bond with your kids even when life gets hectic.

Bake or Cook With Your Kids

I don’t know any child that will give up the chance to help make food with their parents.  Kids are fascinated by the different processes involved with putting together a dessert or a meal. They want to help measure, stir, and prepare. So why not let them help you? It’s a great way to spend quality time together. If you are not sure where to start, check out one of these cookbooks or baking kits made for kids.

Pick a Special Book to Read Together

If you are like our family you probably read together all the time. Most likely it is before bedtime. Have you thought about creating a special reading time together at a different time of day or on a special day on the weekend? Pick a book that you and your child can read together or perhaps start a series. You may rediscover an old book series as they discover it for the first time or you may discover a whole new series together. It will help you bond and help them learn to love reading if they don’t already. If you are looking for some fun books for holidays don’t miss The 20 Best Read Aloud Halloween Books for Kids and 20 Fun and Heartwarming Christmas Books for Kids.

Go To the Park

I practically lived at our local park as a kid. Times are a little different and kids just don’t spend as much time at the park as they used to. This is why it is so important that we take our kids to the park. Even more important is that we engage with them while they are there. Don’t be afraid to go play tag, climb on the equipment, hop on the swings or shoot some hoops with your child. You may feel a little silly, but you will be the coolest parent on the playground in their eyes. You might even have a little fun reliving your youth too.

Play Games Together

I sometimes think playing board games is a lost art, but every time we sit down and play one together as a family we have so much fun. The sillier the board game, the more fun it is. There are many fun board games the whole family can play together. If your family is not in the mood for a board game try a card game or a round of tag or hide and seek. I put together this list of 20 Classic Games to Play With Your Kids if you need some inspiration.

Create With Your Kids

My kids love to make crafts. Many times they will come up with their own creation and other times we find a great craft on Pinterest. Some days I wonder,  what did moms do before Pinterest? What my children love even more than making crafts is when we sit down and craft with them. It can be as complicated as a painting project or as simple as a coloring sheet. Either way, my kids are always thrilled when we sit down and create with them. If you are not sure where to start check out my Pinterest Kids Activities board. There I have pinned a collection of some of the best kid friendly craft projects I have found online and there are some great ones. You can also check out these awesome kids craft kits.

Bonding with your kids and spending quality time with them is simple. You do need to be intentional about it. Some of my best memories with my own parents is just doing simple things like baking or shooting hoops or going shopping. Such little tasks but they meant the world to me.

What are your favorite ways to bond with your kids? How do you spend quality time without spending a fortune?
