I can’t tell you the number of times lately a friend has said to be. “I’m so embarassed for anyone to see my house. My house is a mess.” What I want to say to them is “so what?” Honestly, we all get busy, we all let things go and everyone’s house is messy at some point. At the end of the day, if your friends come over they are there to visit you, not your house. Here are the 5 reasons you need to stop apologizing for your messy house.
Your House Is Not As Messy As You Think It Is
Unless you have an extreme case of hoarding, your house probably is not as messy as you think. You have to realize that you see all the messes and clutter that your friends don’t notice at all.
Your Friends Come to See You Not Your House
Remember, friends want to visit with you. Not your house. Your house does not make them laugh, talk with them or entertain them. You do. At the end of the day that is all they care about.
Your Friends Don’t Have to Live There
Your friends don’t care about the state of your house because they don’t live there. You shouldn’t worry too much about it either. If your house functions well for you and you can live with some messes and clutter then who really cares.
Your Friends Aren’t There to Judge You
If a person is really your friend they are not there to judge your house. If the person is a true friend they are there to love and support you. Your messy home does not matter to them. The time you spend with them does.
Your Home Is Not A Museum
If you have kids, your home is going to be messy. This is most true during the toddler and early elementary school years. There are going to be toys all over. There may be spills here or there. If your kids are in school there is going to be paper clutter. Your friends get that. Most of them are moms too. You have to realize that your home is not a museum. People live there. You live there and its okay if it looks like your home is used for that exact purpose. Your home doesn’t have to be museum quality or department store perfect all the time.
Next time you want to apologize for your messy home stop yourself. Instead, welcome your friends to your home and be proud of what you have and who you are.
