Remember when you were a little kid and you made a list for Christmas? You sent your list off to Santa (wink, wink) and most of the time you received items you wanted from that list with a few surprises here and there. Why should it be any different now that you are an adult? Do you really want your loved ones to spend money buying you things you don’t really want or need? Here are easy ways to share your gift preferences with friends and family so that you get the gifts you really want. You might be doing your loved ones a huge favor! In our family we do this every year and it works out really well.
Make Digital Wish Lists For Stores You Love
If you want your loved ones to get you what you want, you have to point them in the right direction. Often items what you want can be found on Amazon or other well known internet retailers. The best way to help your loved ones find the gifts you want is to have a wish list. Thankfully, the internet makes it super simple to make lists for your family. If you use Amazon, start there and then go to other online stores that you love to see if you can make a digital wish list. Then share all these lists with your loved ones.
Make a Pinterest Board
For items that you want that are not sold at major retailers, create a Pinterest board for them. As a blogger, gifts I like are not easily found in stores. I will often have my eye on a course or book that is only available directly from the seller online. A Pinterest board is great because it will visually display items you want, and include the link to the product. Once you have created a board with your wish list items, share it with friends and family.
Request Gift Cards or Even Cash
Never be afraid to tell your loved ones if you do or do not like gift cards. I know that I love gift cards and I will use them right up. There are also people that get gift cards and put them away, forget about them, let them expire or lose them. If you use gift cards, tell your loved ones, but if you don’t use them, let them know too. I certainly don’t want to buy gift cards if they will just be wasted. If you would get more use out of cash and you feel comfortable enough saying so, tell your loved ones. Perhaps there is a large item that you are saving up for that they could help you get with a cash gift.
Ask For What You Want and Share Your Interests
The best way to get what you want for a gift is to ask for it. If you start telling your loved ones what you want, or hope to get, they will know what you want. Share your interests and hobbies with them and talk about items you are hoping to purchase soon.
It may seem slightly rude to be upfront with your loved ones about the gifts that you want. However, is that any worse than returning an unwanted gift, not using it, throwing it out or eventually just giving it to charity? Use these tips to get the gifts that you really want this holiday season.
