Winter Travel Packing Checklist for Cold Weather

Packing for cold weather travel is completely different than packing for summer travel. The clothing that you need for cold destinations is much bulkier then clothing that you need for warm destinations. Winter clothing is also more expensive than summer clothing so if you forget an item, it can be a big expense. Here is the packing checklist for cold weather that you need to get your family ready for winter weather destinations.

The first step to getting yourself ready to pack is to set out your bags. Decide what bags will work best for your trip. When we travel with our kids, I always have a good sturdy backpack, a small carryon bag and a small carryon bag

Pack Clothes and Accessories First

I always find it best to set out clothes and accessories for packing first. That way you can layout everything that you need. If you need to shop for clothes or wash them you can do it before you leave.

Pack Carryon Bags Next

Next, we pack our carryon bags. We pack small items like books, activity books, electronics and snacks that we will need immediately on the plane in our backpacks. We pack items like extra books, jackets, changes of clothes and pajamas in our carryon bags.

Pack Toiletries Last

We always pack our toiletries last because you often need these items right up until you leave. A good toiletry bag is the best way to get started.

I have used a number of packing checklists for my family over the years.  What I have found is they were either way too vague or way too detailed. I also found that many packing checklists were more suited to individuals. They just didn’t make sense for families. That is why I created The Essential Winter Vacation Family Packing Checklist. It lists everything you need to remember to bring so you can relax and have an awesome vacation with your family. Sign up below to get this easy to use packing checklist.
